The Lacey family and close friend Nate Mitchell decided in 2004 produce a light
display as a way to collect donations for those in need during the Christmas
Holidays. The main obstacle was finding a way to slow traffic down long enough
to collect donations. Their thought; use music, animation and an FM Broadcast
to get people to stop.
They were concerned that they
had absolutely no experience using or programming animated lights, plus were
ignorant with regards to electrical issues such as wiring and power control.
Jeff Lacey contacted us, presented their idea (and their concerns) and we
discussed how we could provide technical (and emotional) support, encouragement,
and guidance. We are so proud that we would be a small part of this very
successful project in North Carolina.
In 2005 (their second year)
their display consisted of:
Over 36,000 lights using a
(5) five color scheme (Blue, Red, Gold, Green and White).
More then 40 individual
displays
150 watt speakers in the
trees and used a FM transmitter so visitors can listen to the holiday music in
their cars.
Seven Animated Lighting light
controllers, Monster Brain and MP3 Controller
The display uses
approximately 120 amps of power and more then 1000 feet of power and computer
cable.
Their lighting “show”
consisted of nine different songs and was approximately 45 minutes in length.
See the Gift of Lights in action! A broadband
connection is recommended.
Donations: In the
last two years the Gift of Lights has collected over 20,000 food
items, $6,000 dollars in cash, 250 winter coats and 150 pair of eye glasses for
those in need. The Gift of Lights has been featured on the front page of the
Charlotte Observer, numerous television and radio broadcasts, and continues
bring the spirit of Christmas to everyone who views the lights.
Bravo to the Lacey family and Nate Mitchell for their success!
